Watermelon Sugar, a folk musical duo with roots in Gettysburg, will return to their hometown as part of their summer tour. The group will be performing a two-set concert at the Blue Parrot Bistro. The concert will be held at the restaurant, at 27 Chambersburg St., 10 pm to midnight Friday. There is no cover charge, although tips will be encouraged. The band's debut CD, Sample, as well as other merchandise, will be available for sale.
Watermelon Sugar's music, an intoxicating mix of guitars, violin, banjo and mandolin combined with complex female vocals, has been compared to that of artists like the Dixie Chicks, Throwing Muses, and Be Good Tanyas. Band members Hypatia Kingsley and Louise Bendall are Gettysburg High School Graduates. For more information, call the Blue Parrot at 337-3739.
