They've done it again.Out of the crate, it's plumper and juicier... Watermelon Sugar's second release: Something to Savor. The folk duo serves up a great batch of songs.

"I can and do listen to anything and everything, but Watermelon Sugar performs the kind of music I often find myself returning to: acoustic folk, purely and cleanly played. Music that is guitar-based with sweet embellishments from other wood-and-string instruments, songs sung by joyful-yet-aching, harmonizing voices..."

Friends may come and go but the good ones last forever. That’s right, I’m laying on the Hallmark corniness nice and thick, but seriously how much fun and sometimes even trouble do you get into with your friends? Think about all the things you can do with a great friend: ride bikes, steal curly straws from house parties, mud wrestle...it’s endless. However, if you happen to be Hypatia Kingsley and Louise Bendall, then your anything would consist of creating a band and calling it Watermelon Sugar, a name derived from In Watermelon Sugar by Richard Brautigan.

One Loop at a Time hooked rug show has proven to be among the most popular ever hung at the Ice House Gallery and it closes on Sunday with the Grand Hook-In and a free performance by the indie folk duo, Watermelon Sugar.

Watermelon Sugar – “Something to Savor” – This duo does a nice job of mixing it up. The tempos, styles, instruments, and topics run the gamut of the female folk/bluegrass genre, so there’s a little here for everyone. Unlike many acts, however, on most tracks the singers’ voices do not blend into each other but remain distinct, and they also sound separated from the instruments; each layer of sound is striking, and the surprising effect pulls the listener’s attention in more than one direction....

Watermelon Sugar in G-burg! Gotta check out this new HOT sticky sweet Folk duo! Saw them August 5th at the Blue Parrot Bistro in Gettysburg... They were in rare form playing a nice selection from their upcoming CD as well as some old favorites & just a couple covers. Indie folk duo Watermelon Sugar, comprised of Gettysburg natives Hypatia Kingsley and Louise Bendall, are scheduled to perform at the Blue Parrot Bistro, 27 Chambersburg St., Gettysburg, from 10 p.m. to midnight Friday as part of a regional tour.
